Game Book: Shooting Diary

Who is responsible

The app is made and published by Mohammed Al-Sabah, working alone. Questions about this policy can be raised at github.com/mosabs2/gamebook/issues.

What stays on your device

Everything the app records is written to storage on the iPhone itself:

• Your entries: dates, estates and places, species and numbers, cartridges, drives, rifle and calibre, weights and distances, and your own notes.
• Photographs you attach to an entry.
• The names of people you were out with.
• The text read from a photographed game card.

None of it is sent anywhere. It is not readable by the developer, and there is no copy held elsewhere.

What leaves your device, and when

Weather

When an entry has a location and a date, the app asks OpenWeatherMap for the weather at that place on that day. The request carries the latitude, the longitude, the date and the app's own key. It carries no name, no device identifier and nothing else about you or the entry, and OpenWeatherMap is given no way to connect one request to another. Their policy is at openweathermap.org/privacy-policy. Decline location, or leave the place blank, and no request is made.

Maps

Choosing a location on the map loads map tiles from Apple, in the ordinary way any app showing a map does. That is handled by Apple's own service under Apple's privacy policy, and the app sends Apple nothing about your diary.

Nothing else

Those two are the whole of it. Reading a game card is done entirely on the phone by Apple's on-device text recognition, so a photographed card never leaves it. The app contains no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting service and no third-party tracking libraries.

Permissions the app asks for

Every one of these is optional, and the app works without any of them.

• Camera. To photograph a game card, or take a picture for an entry.
• Photo library. To pick a card you already photographed, and to save pictures you attach.
• Contacts. To pick the guns you were out with from your address book instead of typing the names, and to show their pictures on an entry. Contacts are read on the phone and are never uploaded.
• Location, while using the app. To record where a day took place and to look up that day's weather.

Backups and exports

The app can write a full backup, holding every entry and every photograph, and can export the diary as a spreadsheet. Both are files created at your request and placed wherever you choose to put them. Once a file is out of the app it is yours to look after, and this policy no longer governs it.

Your iPhone's own iCloud or computer backups may include the app's data, in the same way they include other apps. That is Apple's backup, under Apple's terms and your own settings.

How long the data is kept

For as long as you keep it. Entries stay until you delete them, and deleting the app removes everything it holds on the phone. Because there is no copy anywhere else, deleting the app without a backup loses the diary for good.

Children

The app is not directed at children and asks for nothing that would identify anyone. No age is collected, because no personal information is collected.

Changes to this policy

If what the app does with data changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. Anything amounting to a material change will be described in the release notes of the version that introduces it.
